Spatial cultural and historical ensemble of great importance, Kosan\u010di\u0107ev venac, is the area of \u200b\u200bthe oldest compact Serbian settlement in Belgrade with preserved old grid of spontaneously created streets, old street curtain, tree lines and ambience with many old houses and public buildings documenting the historical development of this part of Belgrade. from the first half of the 18th century, when the reconstruction of the inherited late medieval settlement was carried out, to the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kosan\u010di\u0107’s venac includes historical sites with finds of settlements and necropolises of the Roman Singidunum, as the first suburbs outside the former city limits. Valuable examples of traditional Balkan architecture have been preserved on Kosan\u010di\u0107ev venac: Konak kneginje Ljubice, Kafana “?”, Residential buildings representing transitional types from traditional to European architecture – Fru\u0161kogorska 10, Kosan\u010di\u0107ev venac 18, urban architecture of 19th century European styles – Cathedral, Kosan\u010di\u0107ev venac 7 – 15, House of Dimitrij Krsmanovi\u0107, Kneza Sime Markovi\u0107a 2, significant buildings of the XX century – Elementary school near the Cathedral, House of Branislav Koji\u0107, Zadarska 6, Patriarchate building, King Peter 5. These, as well as other buildings, are material testimonies historical development of Kosan\u010di\u0107ev venac as an administrative, ecclesiastical and cultural center, as well as a residential center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kosan\u010di\u0107’s venac has contents that have been continuously preserved from the moment when the first important institutions after the creation of the modern Serbian state were formed on that place. Although the urban whole of Kosan\u010di\u0107’s venac is not quite compact, nor unique in chronology of origin, typology or stylistic affiliation, it represents the oldest preserved urban fabric in which Serbs live continuously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is also the first developed administrative, cultural, spiritual and economic center of Belgrade and the renewed Serbian state and one of the specific areas of old Belgrade with ambient and artistic qualities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The importance and value of Kosan\u010di\u0107’s venac cannot be denied. This is a historical and cult place, a quiet corner of Belgrade. Books have been written about him. There are various stories, legends, and secrets about him. If you have not had the opportunity to visit this part of the city, be sure to find time.
